Free Coordinate Converter

Convert WGS84, UTM, MGRS, DMS and DDM coordinates

Enter a location in any supported input format and get the same position in all the others, instantly and for free. Our online coordinate converter accepts WGS84 latitude/longitude, degrees decimal minutes (DDM), degrees minutes seconds (DMS), MGRS, UTM coordinates, returns Plus Codes (Open Location Codes) with the results, and shows the position on a map.

No registration, no installation: pick the input format, type your coordinates and press Convert.

Simple and accurate coordinate conversion

Whether you work with GPS coordinates, web maps, GIS data or survey information, this converter turns a location from one coordinate system into another in a single step.

Supported coordinate formats:

  • WGS84 — latitude and longitude in decimal degrees, the format used by GPS and most web maps
  • DDM — degrees decimal minutes, for example 40°44.9055′ N
  • DMS — degrees, minutes and seconds, for example 40°44′54.3″ N
  • MGRS — Military Grid Reference System
  • UTM — Universal Transverse Mercator zone, easting and northing
  • Plus Codes — Open Location Codes returned with each conversion

Choose the input format, enter your coordinates and the converter calculates the matching values in every other supported system. Need to convert a whole list? Use the batch coordinate converter, or look up the nearest place with reverse geocoding.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert latitude and longitude to UTM?

Select WGS84 as the input type, enter the latitude and longitude in decimal degrees and press Convert. The result table lists the UTM zone, hemisphere, easting and northing together with every other supported format.

What is the difference between DD, DDM and DMS coordinates?

Decimal degrees (DD, also called WGS84 lat/long) write a position as a single decimal number, for example 40.7484. Degrees decimal minutes (DDM) split it into whole degrees and decimal minutes (40° 44.9055′). Degrees, minutes and seconds (DMS) use whole degrees, whole minutes and decimal seconds (40° 44′ 54.3″).

What is MGRS?

The Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) is a grid-based way to describe a location, built on UTM. A reference such as 18TWL8563111324 encodes the grid zone, a 100 km square and an easting and northing within that square.

What is a Plus Code?

A Plus Code, or Open Location Code, is a short code such as 87G8P2X7+9P that identifies a place without a street address. It is derived from latitude and longitude.

Is the coordinate converter free?

Yes. The converter is free to use and needs no registration. If you need to convert coordinates in your own software, the same functionality is available through our API.
